Happy Friday!
I’m extraordinarily unmusical. I can’t hold a tune in the slightest. I don’t really listen to music, and tend to get a bit bored when I try.
I’m not particularly proud of the fact. (Social) life would be easier if I could talk about music with people and share their enthusiasms.
Still, I love singing in church, and I have a few songs which I love – and listen to – sporadically at least.
They’re not particularly new songs, so don’t prepare yourself for a revelation.
I love “auld lang syne”.
The tune is absolutely beautiful. So nostalgic and haunting. So sad and meaningful. It’s not a very Australian song, but in other western countries it’s sung at New Year.
I listened to it the night before I moved out of home for the first time. Loosely translated it means “for the sake of days gone by”.
It’s hard to find a nice version online, but this one is good, if a bit slow.
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should all acquaintance be forgot
And auld lang syne?
